New Assemblage Brooches

I actually made some brooches over the weekend like I said I was going to do!  They are so much fun to make- but I only made five to start with- I need to see if they will actually sell before I spend any more time assembling! You'll either have to make a statement and wear one on your lapel- or pin it to a pillow, bag, or anything else that needs some lovely fandangle! xo

i need your help!

Happy Monday! I was hoping if any of you have time to give me some feedback about the new design I've uploaded here on the blog-I'd be most appreciative! I've noticed the page loads a little slower and kinda wacky-but not so much that I think it must go- but if you disagree...or have other problems- please let me know! Also knowing that not all monitors are the same size or large enough to see the new background- I worry that the birds and text are being cut off in a strange way. I want the message to be, "hello!" not,  "H-E-double hockey sticks". That would be bad.  Thank you!

Nikole Herriott is a baker of marvels...

and the peddler of my dreams! In my continuing series of major girl crushes, here is one seriously sweet and talented bird: Nikole Herriott of Herriott Grace. 

Not only does she work closely with her father to create the beautiful wood pieces available at Herriott Grace, she also creates the most magical of cakes and homespun frippery to style each and every one of them. Her blog Forty-Sixth at Grace is pure delight- her posts are tiny series of heartfelt, haiku-like gems that share insight to her methods and experiences. My favorite one thus far recalls her time learning from an eccentric pastry chef who taught her the real art of icing at a pâtisserie school she attended. You simply must take some time to visit her enchanting world...her blog, flickr album and shop. xo

Artist at Home: Nathan Abels

I'm very happy to share a few peeks inside the home of my good friend and fellow SCAD grad-artist, Nathan Abels and his wife, Lorna Cochrane.  The couples combined love of art and vintage treasures along with their effortless style is apparent in the thoughtfully curated historic apartment they share in Denver, Colorado. Luckily, some of these photos were taken before a few works of Nathan's were shipped off to galleries-so you'll see a glimpse or two of his fine art work. The building's charming exterior.

Nathan and Lorna have an ever-growing collection of artwork that they have either
purchased, found, or traded over the years. The painting over the sofa is an original
by Denver artist,  Kay Tuttle. The sofa is from Room & Board and the coffee

table is vintage Lane. 

A view of the other side of the living room reveals a large original painting, Overpass
by Nathan. The bench was a vintage find and the credenza against the wall is from BluDot.

Lorna arranged this artful still life that features more of the couple's art collections- a piece by Kay Tuttle (behind the candlestick) and a resin antler sculpture by Lauri Lynnxe Murphy. 

The dining room wall entertains a salon style grouping of interesting images from a David Bowie album cover and a vintage book cover to original artwork and prints- see the detail here. The table is another great piece from Blu-Dot and the chairs are from Room & Board.

The bedroom is serene in a wash of white. The painting is an original acrylic on panel by Nathan called, Dénouement. Nathan was honored with the title, Emerging Artist of The Year for 2009 by the Denver Post and his work is soon to appear in the juried Western edition of New American Paintings!

Allyson Mellberg

Happy Friday! Here's a sampling of work in several mediums by Allyson Mellberg. I believe the prints are collaborations with her husband, Jeremy Taylor, and many of the soft sculptures were inspired by his drawings. They are a mixed-media dream team! There is a really great interview with Allyson on My Love for You is a Stampede of Horses. xo

Wreaths Gone Wild

I just added two twig wreaths to my Etsy shop that are packed to the gills with vintage and antique millinery goodness. A very kind fairy-flower mother of sorts recently gifted me an abundance of these old treasures and here they are ready to be passed on yet again- thank you, Sweet Sally! These have given me some ideas for some crazy brooches too- would you wear one? Amy Z. once told me she would wear one of my wreaths as a brooch if she could- I should have picked up on that sooner! xo
