Jason Hackenwerth

Jason Michael Hackenwerth is an amazing artist I was fortunate to have known while we were painting graduate students at Savannah College of Art and Design. Since graduating in 2003, he has exhibited his truly original and astounding balloon sculptures worldwide. The last thing I remembered about him was his incredible encaustic work (which inspired an entire class and which he generously and probably regrettably traded a few with me) and his famous balloon sculptures that were a hit at all the parties. Who knew what he had up his sleeve!? Jason received a Scope Roving Artist Grant for Public Art which he premiered at the 2005 Venice Biennale in Venice Italy- see here. I'm just so proud to know him as he is a creative genius but also a fantastically fun and vibrant person-as his sculptures would suggest! Visit Jason's website to view him in action!

His work is insane! Actually, I can identify a few as parasites especially the third photo down, the vertical balloon sculpture is a nematode! I love lifeform inspired art!

I saw pics of these a couple of weeks ago, but for the life of me couldn't remember where - thank you for posting :) and how cool that you know the atrist!
I'm in awe of his work, it must take quite a mathematical mind to put these together...
I really hope i get to see them up close one day, they look huge!
