Allyson Ross

Allyson Ross has been creating her magical mixed-media jewelry that combines vintage finds with cast silver for many years before it recently became all the rage. She was one of the first jewelry designers to catch our attention when we opened shopSCAD. Her vintage embroidery and button rings flew out of our cases, appeared in Lucky Magazine, and eventually Anthropologie took notice and the rest is herstory! Allyson constantly surprises me with each new line of work she creates -such as her new entomology line and her doll-house photography- that are mysterious and laden with personal history. You can view her jewelry on her website allysons-designs and her new photography on allyson-ross. com. Her work is available to purchase on her website, at shopSCADand from her Etsy shop. Watch this girl fly!!

Below are photographs by Allyson Ross.

S.HOPtalk

Thank you to my new friend SuzANNE of the wonderful blog:S.HOPtalk for her post about my new work! We met on Flickr as mutual admirers of each others work. If you have yet to fully discover Flickr - and you are an eye-candy addict like myself- get ready for some serious carpal tunnel and eye strain! If you click on a member's profile-you will find leads to other interesting people in their contacts list. There is sooo much goodness to peruse- consider yourself warned!

ShopSCAD Atlanta

I am excited to announce to Blogland that ShopSCAD Atlanta is moving! Everyone is thrilled to be relocating the shop just down Peachtree street to the first floor inside the actual SCAD campus! It is a little bittersweet for me as I had the opportunity to decorate this location and hate to see it lost. But, life goes on and it really will be so much more exciting for the shop to be in the midst of the bustling SCAD Atlanta environment! If only there were a way to salvage the vintage wallpaper panels that I used on the walls! (If you have any ideas-please let me know!) The grand-reopening will be mid-April- I'll let you know the exact date asap!! I was really honored to be their final artist of the month at this location! I got to enjoy the shop one last time and admire all the work of Visual Merchandiser, Molly Evans, a SCAD Fibers alumna. She has really outdone herself! I'll post about her work next! Then the other cast members of the talented crew-all professional artists themselves! I was so excited to see their new work! Stay tuned! Here are a few photos of my visit:
Customer with Cuyler Hovey- King and Molly Evans.
This looks staged-but it wasn't!!

Pretty Molly demonstrates her Stitch Mouth business card..

With my dear friend, Amy Zurcher, shopSCAD's managing director.
She does it all folks!!

Inspired earring display by Molly.

I love this old jade green and red case I found at the now defunct Lakewood Antique Market in Atlanta. Wallpaper panel sourced from Hannah's Treasures. Paintings by David Marcet

Sweet husband suprised me by attending the reception!
He had to hustle to and from work-Atlanta is a good 3.5 hours away!

Allyson Ross- another shopSCAD Atlanta pioneer employee!
I was trying to photograph the little bird pin she had just created!
Unfortunately, I can't work a camera!
I'll have more of her work to share-and clearly-in a bit.

GreenPOP!

I think Poppytalk Handmade Market has launched its best collection ever called GreenPop-an Eco Themed Market! I do believe all the mixed greens (my favorite color!) have me swooning! I am especially in love with the two trick pony line of colorful and modern stationery line, orangyporangy's vintage remix skirts, and Stinky Toes Design vintage paper wreaths! Stinky Toes Design's are handmade by my good friend and Indianapolis artist, Amy Bell. She also has a sister store on Etsy where she sells all kinds of craft supplies and vintage finds. Visit her supply shop here.

Melanie Bilenker Jewelry

I came across artist Melanie Bilenker via Crust Station-my favorite blog for finding out about extraordinary and offbeat artists.
The Victorian custom of preserving locks of hair and miniature portraiture in lockets to remember loved ones inspires artist Melanie Bilenker to preserve moments from her own life through her line drawings-made in part from her own hair-encased in resin set in gold. Visit her website here for more.
